So the President gave a speech yesterday
and a heckler showed up  - who wanted to play.

She interrupted several times to talk about the nature of drones
and the American lives that are lost during their execution roam.

She asked the president if he were prepared to take the blame?
He was gentle in his response and yielded her no shame.

President Obama said her points are worth listening to, because of her passion.
His assertion of disagreement with her points was done in tactful fashion.

He listened to her intently and handled the discord with ease.
He is one cool brother. Gotta dub him President Smooth B.

He listened before responding. There was no yelling or talking above.
You don’t have to be in agreement with another to show a little respectful love.

I appreciate his show of decency it is historically noted: a presidential good look.
Seems Don Thompson, McDonalds CEO, is taking notes from Obama’s play book.

Don is in todays news, because he was called out to the front of the line
by a thoughtful and precious consumer – who wiser than her years, is only nine.

The young lady wanted to know, why McDonalds uses gimmicks to get kids to buy
food that isn’t good for them, yielding obesity and diabetes – a less quality life?

Don responded to the young lady in all due respect
and said it is under his reign than MickyD’s has made the fresh fruit connect.

There’s apples instead of fries and the giving away of free milk.
These are healthy concepts that were executed under him.

Then CEO Don went on to insert more marketing ideas – quick,
stating they’re testing a new menu item called ‘kiwi on-a-stick‘.

He lightly put it out there, that wether it succeeds is up to the tests.
But under his MickyD reign their nutritional menu is at its best.

This was good audio to hear and really explained a lot
since McDonalds has gone healthy, their demand is not hot.

I didn’t know what the reason was that kids stopped flocking to it like they used to.
But it stands to reason, good health is in season and kids have to be made to eat fruit.

An apple a day will keep the doctor away
and marketing will suffer during the transitional phase.
Have you had anyy Mickey D’s today?

Pa-dup-Pa-pa-Paaaa! I’m lovin’ it.

I have absolutely not cared

Minnesotans signed a bill that’s pending in tarry
that will allow our same sex folk to finally get married.

You may not agree, that marriage is for all,
but it’s a human condition when in love we fall.

No need to continue to stall what you don’t understand.
It’s really not about the certificate or the wedding band,

but about being recognized by the law and receiving supportive benefits.
It used to be taboo, but things are changing quick.

And I ain’t never cared or called someone crazy

BarbaraWalters_Retires2013So Barbara Walters is signing off for the day -
as sure as the evenings set is coming her way.

She makes 83 looks sweet in picking her time
to exit the stage with her good health and mind.

Ol’ Barbara has done it — and she did so today.
Her marvelous career is our history to stay.

Everything that she’s given us and everything that she is,
is noted to be drawn from by all of her kids.

The media-savvy-kids that are sure to come after,
may they study Ms. Walters manners, etiquette and warm laughter.

I’ll miss her broadcasts dearly, as her influence continues to live on.
Even I hone-in on her when I’m in my broadcast zone.

Barbara has encouraged me that ‘anything he can do – I can do better.’
Wether doing it in 7″ Jimmy Choo shoes or a luxury cashmere sweater,
Ms. Walters is a go-getter.

As sure as all necessary elements that have come before me, like time, rocks, and water,
I’m Qui
and my career wouldn’t be as awesome as is it without the work of Ms. Barbara Walters.

She isn’t irrelevant. She did not get fired.
Today Ms. Barbara Walters has officially retired.

I cried a little, but I’m alright.

I’ll say a prayer for her fam tonight.

Then I’ll propose a toast to a wonderful afterlife

No. This is not a sad occasion, Ms. C was 84.
And we’ll go on to sing the songs of ‘how we do adore.’

She was a staple on Y&R, I don’t know how they are going to make it.
I’m sure the writers will whip something up and the actors won’t have to fake it.

Life. She is funny and Jeanne Cooper was a blast.
I’m Qui
And I can only pray to live a life so full of pizzaz.

Hostages of the corporate world

First of all it’s Monday but I’m trying to make the weekend last
So I coupled my 5am cup of jo’ with OTIS’ OL FUNKY ASS:

He’s good company being steered by the lyrics of Loco and King J,
Throwing me in the back of the Cadi as we peruse the highway.

Memories are good and last weekend lent us some.
But losing Chris Kelly was not on the order of “fun”.

An overdose of heroine and cocaine isn’t the type of headline you want to hone.
But it is what it is, and our dear CHRIS has CROSSed over and gone home.

I’ve got to get out of here to take my child to school and hit the boot camp field.
I’ve turned my back on fat, sugar, bread and salt — a journey full of hills.

But for real, the day is early and I’m feeling fresh and cool.
I’m Qui
Done with yawning at 6 in the morning – let me get my kid to school.

SEE YA!

Once I returned home I tuned in to CNN‘s hem -
the time was approximately

8am

I’m certain the AK47 was not remotely made
for high traffic areas at the start of your day:

Headlines read: AK-47-WIELDING GUNMAN FIRES 37 TIMES AT SHOCKED COPS DURING ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP!
All this is happening while GUN REFORM is in the front seat and the topic is hot.

The guy in the (uncensored) video unloads on the cops and yells out, “Kill me“!
Background checks could sure help – most targeted officers should feel me.

2 cops pulled the dude over for running a stop sign
not knowing they be the executors of his lifes end-time.

It’s unbelievably serious – I’m just relaying it in rhyme.
Houston hosted the NRA last weekend & they were on clown-shine.

Cause moonshine don’t make you talk like you’ve got your gun and don’t care.
This rallying of the ‘clowning crew’ is being headed by Wayne LaPierre.

Good thing the cops in the video had trained for this stuff, (whether support or pout).
They were better equipped to report it, call-for-backup and take the clown shooter out.

Being that it’s only 8:30 a.m. – More new is sure to follow,
I’m Qui
Serving it up with coffee, in attempt to help you swallow.

WHY NOT YOU? There’s no good reason why you should not be at your best life at any age. I’m currently on a journey to discover as much every day. So far, I think it’s doing a good job of playing hide-and-seek with me. Good thing I’m persistent and determined.

I too, am a checkout line magazine reader though it was my monthly home subscription to EBONY Mag that proved to be most instrumental in ELEVATE’ing my mind to the necessary level of refocusing on a healthier and happier me. Dr. Oz was instrumental in Melissa Johnsons piece on page 75 of the April 2013 publication:

Fight HEALTH Threats

Hypertension. High Cholesterol. Diabetes. These medical conditions plague our people in record numbers — in fact, they are so common, we tend to think in terms of when we’ll be diagnosed, not if. “That might lead you to believe they’re inevitable, but nothing could be further from the truth, “says Mehmet Oz, M.D., host of The Dr. Oz Show and a vice-chair and surgery professor at Columbia University.

You’re never too old or too young — to benefit from a healthy makeover, but don’t panic: You don’t have to jump into a strict diet and exercise routine to reduce your risk factors or improve an existing condition. The following lifestyle changes can help you get it together in your 20′s, 30′s, 40′s, 50′s and beyond.

Reduce Hypertension NOTE

20s_NO TO SALT

The major food factor for hypertension is salt, says Dr. Oz. “Where salt goes, water will follow. Think of your blood vessels as a hose: the more water in the hose, the greater the pressure.”

Replace all that salt with flavorful mixed herbs– oregano, peppers and Indian blends. Another salt-free substitute: Capsiacin [based sauces, which add a spicy kick and provide a bonus benefit: "Capsaicin reduces your appetite." Capasaisin is found in chile peppers, the common ingredient in most hot sauces. Cut back on processed and take-out foods, opting instead for fresh food when possible.

"Ninety percent of the salt we eat comes from processed foods," says Dr. Oz. And watch your intake of the "salty six," common foods often loaded with extra salt: bread, cold cuts, pizza, poultry, such as chicken nuggets, soups and prepared sandwiches. Read the labels.

40s_PotassiumFight the pressure-elevating effects of sodium with this essential mineral. “Potassium and sodium compete with one another in your body,” Dr. Oz explains, “and eating foods with lots of potassium reduces the amount of sodium.” Avocados, bananas, oranges, potatoes and tomatoes are a few of the potassium powerhouses he wants to see in your grocery cart.

the letter Meditation is a proven stress reliever, no matter how many candles are on your birthday cake. And for older adults who don’t exercise as hard as they used to, the ancient practice can help improve overall mental health, improve focus and reduce essential hypertension, a type of high blood pressure that tends to develop over time and has no underlying cause. It may sound easy, but meditating effectively takes commitment and focus. “People have a hard time letting their minds be free,” says Dr. Oz, who practices meditation himself. “For me it’s harder than running a marathon. You can daydream when you’re running, but when you meditate, you have to let your brain be quiet.”

In the business of other peoples business

In Communication, Griot, Music, Networking, News, Self Improvement, TV Shows on April 17, 2013 at 9:27 am

dmx-flips-outNetworking exposes others to others, thus reblogging is not ever a crutch.
I wouldn’t be properly communicating if I didn’t share this piece from Clutch.

DMX breaksdown on an OWN broadcast of Iyanla.
Clutch’s Demetria L. Lucas reflects the highlights all on ya:

…In case his ongoing erratic behavior over the years didn’t clue you in that something is wrong with X, his appearance on the latter two shows, and specifically on Sunday’s Iyanla, Fix My Life should have. He was twitchy, nervous, switching seamlessly between shucking responsibility, martyrdom, rage, guilt tripping and rambling so much that Iyanla finally just asked DMX what everyone watching at home was thinking, “Are you high?”

He said, “no.” In a post-show interview with Jet magazine, X insisted again that he was sober. In a separate interview, his son, Xavier was asked if his dad was high and said, “I don’t know.” That Vanzant, or anybody else, even had to ask said enough. There was a collective agreement—on Black Twitter, at least— that he was lying anyway.

I don’t know exactly what is wrong with ol’ Earl “DMX” Simmons or what he needs. That’s over my head. But I know what he doesn’t need is cameras trained on him for viewers to sit at home and gawk at him, feel pity for him, or worse, laugh at his disease.

Whatever was going on during Sunday night’s show, whether X was, high and/or otherwise unwell, either from unresolved trauma or an undiagnosed disorder, he shouldn’t have been allowed on TV in that state of mind. Yes, I know X asked to participate, but someone with a level head should have turned him down to appear on camera, arranged a private consultation or at least delayed his appearance until he was clearly sober and tested to be sure…” [click here to continue]

Demetria makes a good case. I do indeed understand.
Good show-making shouldn’t be at the expense of a frustrated man.

But lets be real, DMX consented to being on the show.
So a man has problems. I say let him blow.

He may have a little money, but the struggle is oh so real.
Sometimes folk have to see themselves on video, before considering to heal.

It’s okay to air-it-out, if it’s a part of X’s journey to ‘fix it.’
If for the sole sake of reality play – the idea should have been in pile: nix it.

Iyanla Vanzant isn’t Oprah – there is no debating.
Oprah’s station OWN is the business of reaping good ratings.

So I’m sure
Iyanla wishes DMX a cure.

She’s in the business of other peoples business.
And we’ve become fond of watching her shindig.

So for now
DMX’s interview was an episode cash cow.

And they all win!
May the reality of all (with all parties) set in.

Exploiting is a strong word and choices are always true,
I’m Qui
Kicking it with thee because I’m curious of your point of view.

And Everything
This morning I drank coffee and downed a glass of v8.
I initially ordered an omelette – but it had too much salt for my taste.

And everything is great. I went to the doc yesterday
and she reports, I’m a thinner sport and BP numbers @bay.

I said “YAY!!!

I’m not a high BP kind of gal. I rarely stress over any scene.
But last year the doc said, based on data she’d read – high bp is in my genes.

And everything is alright still – I beat the train again
so I woke up this morning, real short on yawning and began to walk this win.

There are editing notes on my desk, of tasks needing to get done.
There are a few sales at the mall that are screaming “Qui! Come!
There’s a bank account budget, that’s pretty slim and mean.
I ain’t saying I’m going to blow it on clothes and everything.
I am not about about that low-bank-balance thing.

And everything is being sorted out in Boston as I speak;
the marathon explosions on yesterday linger on MSNBC.

Today President Obama said justice will be sought.
No one has stepped forth to claim it – as if it were done for naught.
Resources run deep; the perpetrator(s) will be caught.

Gun control laws are up for reform
and Newtown families cause cold hearts to warm.

And everything will be taken into consideration – I hope.
Your heart has got to ache for the gun-violence-surviving folk.
Their burden is not an easy yolk.

16-Hour Drive takes 16 Months

Gotta love a LEO on script…

After moving to Arizona by way of a 20-foot UHAUL 16-months ago,
I finally went back home to Texas to love on my familial folks.

I intended to visit for a maximum of 7-days
but ended up enjoying a 14-day stay.

Better than good, it was great – to lone star perch,
especially for 2 Sundays in a row at the ROL church.

I’m black – my gospel roots include Shirley Ceasar and Aretha Franklin.
It had been too long since I’d seen the saints praise the lord in holyghost dancin’.

I surrounded myself in good vibes and love the entire time I was there,
then Spirit Airlines delivered me back to AZ in expeditious loving care.

And I must say, it feels good to have the southwest weather back in my hair.
There’s no place like home – and Chandler is fair.

Home sweet home, I’ve returned to my HOA habitat,
I’m Qui
A southern she, who’s quite excited to be back.

Happy Hump Day baby, enjoy it with whoever you’re with.
The day is yours to conquer and score. Today: Go out and WIN!

OZ The Great and Powerful

OzTheGreatandPowerful_WitchI saw it in 3D and it was very visually entertaining, though the script itself seemed a bit plateaued at times. I think I was most surprised to see the cast of various well known television actors heading up the film and successfully carrying through to the end. Sam Raimi left us prime for the beginnings of The Wizard of Oz; the place Dorothy would later stumble upon in a whirl winded feverish dream.

On a scale from 1-10, I’d give it a 7. Only because, for the amount of time that we sat in the theater, I had way too much time for idle thought. I thought about things like: what I was going to do after the movie, whether or not I’d put too much white cheddar salt on the popcorn and from time to time, I even had fleeting thoughts of making script notes on scenes that could’ve been written more clever.

All in all, it was an enjoyable outing. But then again, I was in the company of some pretty outstanding folk when I saw it, so if I had to rate the outing, I’d give it a solid 10.

Check out a few of the IMBD member reviews,
sometimes it’s good to critic peruse.

It’s good to sit in a theater anytime
and relive the magic of childhood sunshine.

There’s no place like home, it’s the soil that connects us.
I endearingly saw this film, with my kinfolk in Texas.

Kiss Kiss
I’m a wizardly happy Ms,
I’m Qui

Make this Hump Day a childlike one filled with bliss.
